EPIC: adj. 1. Surpassing the usual or ordinary. 2. Heroic and impressive in quality. From Latin epicus, From Greek epikos. About Us
We're John and Heather King....Welcome to Epic Cane Corso. Heather and I both came from a dog and horse background. We believe this gives us an advantage, starting with our selection of puppies all the way through to our breeding program. First and foremost, we both understand soundness, structure, movement, type, temperament and drive. These six fundamentals apply to dogs and horses alike and are all very important.
I, John, grew up with Dobermans and have had family breeding them since before I was born. Everything from hobby breeders, up to full-blown kennels. Later, my family switched to the Pitbull breed and as a young adult I became a hobby breeder of them. My wife, Heather, was into Mastiffs when we met, the Bullmastiff to be exact. So when it was time for us to get our first dog together, we started researching many different breeds, mostly Mastiffs and of the rare type. The Cane Corso became our main point of interest and had the qualities we were both looking for: A mastiff-type breed with a great temperament, loyal, intimidating watch dog and super with children, not to mention unique.
This is not to say the Cane Corso is for everyone. They are rather large and can be very stubborn, so training and a firm hand is often required. Please, like us do your research. Not only of the breed, but of the breeders themselves. Trust me, the time spent studying this breed will be both enjoyable and rewarding. The CCAA Website is a good place to start.
Our time spent with horses started at a young age for both of us. I rode and showed western, english, hunter-jumpers and endurance, Heather did dressage and 3-day eventing. We simply traded one passion for another.
We are a small hobby breeder. What does that mean? We both have full-time jobs, myself, law enforcement and Heather, medical profession. Breeding is not a living for us and it does not pay the bills. We do this for the love of the breed and want to preserve and improve it. We are very active in both conformation showing and working events, or anything else that has to do with our dogs. We also prefer to remain smaller and keep only the best for our breeding program. We are also involved with the Cane Corso Rescue.
Our goal at Epic is to preserve this fine breed and improve upon it wherever possible. We strive to build a relationship with our puppy owners and to provide a lifetime of support. Whether you're looking for a Top Quality Show Dog, Great Working Animal or just a new addition to your family....
Epic is in one word.... DEDICATED.
